Feels strange to be writing about my brand new course for Plan3t Gong, since this was the place I launched my very first course back in 2006! Back then ‘A Comedy Of Errors’ simple ‘tight early, understand the basics of prize pool equity and push late’ was enough for people to beat SNGs at a decent clip… but I digress! This post is supposed to fast forward us to 2011 and my first live poker course.Live Poker Gold is released for sale today! The inspiration for this was my many US friends and colleagues – who had their hobbies / livelihoods taken away a couple of months back. The remaining US online options are risky (I would not want too much money on Cake etc myself at the moment) and with legislation a little way off there is a huge poker void which can only be filled with live games.
Here is the problem, directly translating your online skills to live play will help, though only to a certain extent… the fact that you are better at poker than your opponents will only make getting constantly out-drawn all the more agonizing for you!
This is where Live Poker Gold comes in.
It builds new foundations in recognizing different types of opponent and beating them. It shows you the huge errors live players make and how to encourage them (directly translating your online play will actually stop many of your opponents making these mistakes, so this part is important). It also goes through several online poker skills one-by-one and shows you how to adapt to the live games.
And that is just in part #1!!
There are actually 3 parts, the one I outlined is called ‘foundations’ and it gets the 3 step process for beating these games going… Identify Opponent Type – Then Wait For Their Mistakes – Then Adjust To Encourage And Profit From Them!
Part #2 is for the big profits, this builds on the first part and goes into more detail on beating each type of opponent. It covers pre-flop strategy, post flop bet sizing and orphaned pots. I also included a ‘mechanical strategy’ for hiding your own tells and emotions in this part of the course.
Finally Part #3 is for practical information, etiquette, tipping and rakes, chips and waiting lists and also a reference of rules and odds / outs for those who need them.
Well, I did have the $16 per hour formula in the middle… however this has to be my best effort yet. I feel the price is actually too generous for the work and content which is included. If this one is as popular as I expect then the next one will be a little more expensive!!
You can get your copy via the sales website at http://www.livepokergold.com
I look forward to receiving your feedback on this course… and will keep you updated here for any extras and future works.
GL at the tables, Mark
